As the worthy heir of the far oriental calligraphy and the automatic scriptures / paintins of Henri Michaux, Jean-Christophe de Clercq is an artist whose painting is fascinating for its simplicity and preciseness. Sacred and profane are mixed together in his paintings, which are deeply marked by the overtaxation of tensed forces and extreme loosenings; of huge breathings and intense densities.

These inks and gouaches, delimiting territories and micro-lands, and where mat aspect is opposed to transparency impose silence by their own nature. We have to remain silent then.
